Delete from SMS

This function allows you to delete a single customer record for a toll free number. Only non-ACTIVE records can be deleted from SMS/800.

In the menu frame, select the Delete from SMS link located in the Number Admin section of the menu. The following will appear in the workspace frame:

To delete the SMS/800 record, enter a toll free number in the Toll Free Number field. The format of the number is 10 digits with or without the dashes (for example: 8005551212 or 800-555-1212).

After entering a number in the Toll Free Number field hitting the TAB key will populate the Date/Time drop-down list with all known date/time records. Select the effective date/time of the customer record you want to delete from the Date/Time drop-down list, or type a date time in the text field below, labeled (select or enter). The format of this field is MM/DD/YY HH:MMa/z, where a is A or P, and z is the time zone. Time zone is optional and is presumed to be Central time if omitted.

Select the button. A message will appear in the response frame indicating the status of the request.

SMS/800 has an unusual behavior for numbers in the Assigned state that should be explained. To understand this behavior, you must first know that when a number is reserved, it has a Reserved Until date associated with it. If the number has not had any records scheduled or activated by the time the Reserve Until date is reached, the number is returned to the spare pool.

Now consider the case where a number is in the Assigned state and has a single Pending record. When you request to delete that Pending record, if the Reserve Until date has not passed, the record is deleted and the number is returned to the Reserved state.

If the Reserve Until date has passed, the delete request will be rejected with an error of "USE DCSN=Y". The DCSN flag allows an MGI client to force SMS/800 to delete a record in the case where the Reserve Until date is in the past. Deleting the record with DCSN set to Y has an unexpected side-effect of returning the number to the spare pool. 8MS has made a conscious decision to never set this flag, so a number is only spared when the controlling Resp Org chooses to spare that number.

Batch Record Delete

This function allows you to delete a customer record from a list of toll free numbers. An attempt will be made to delete the same record from each number (i.e., the record specified in the Date/Time field as described above). Requests for numbers that do not contain the specified record will fail.

Select the button. The Batch Popup will appear. See Batches in the Common Features section for details on the Batch Popup.
